Hartwood Acres Mansion Maternity Photos

There’s something incredibly special about getting to photograph the same love story through different seasons of life. A few years ago, I had the honor of capturing this sweet couple’s proposal, and recently I met them again at Hartwood Acres Mansion for their maternity session as they celebrate the exciting arrival of their baby on the way.

Nestled just outside of Pittsburgh, Hartwood Acres Mansion is one of the most beautiful locations for photography in Western Pennsylvania. With its timeless architecture, stunning gardens, and elegant estate grounds, it creates the perfect backdrop for both Pittsburgh proposal photography and Pittsburgh maternity photos.

This session felt especially meaningful because it was a full-circle moment - from documenting the beginning of their engagement to now capturing this joyful new chapter as they prepare to become parents. Watching couples grow their families and being invited to preserve these milestones is one of the greatest joys of being a Pittsburgh lifestyle photographer.

Their maternity session was filled with so much excitement and anticipation for the little one they’ll soon meet.

If you’re looking for a beautiful location for maternity photos in Pittsburgh, Hartwood Acres Mansion has so much to offer in a classic setting that photographs beautifully in every season.

It’s such an honor to tell stories like theirs - from surprise proposals to maternity sessions and all the meaningful moments in between. Congratulations, you two!

Dani & Trevor: Grupp's Christmas Tree Farm Couples Photo Session

If you’ve been following along, you might recognize Dani in these photos below! Dani started assisting me with photo sessions a few years ago, and we have had such a blast getting to work together! I asked if her and her husband Trevor would be willing to be my “test models” to get some images to promote my Christmas mini sessions this year (at Grupp’s Christmas Tree Farm), and I was so excited when they said yes! It was a win-win - photos for them, sample images for me!

The original day of our session, it was dark and rainy… so we rescheduled to the following week. I am so thankful we did, because we had the most beautiful day and glowiest light!

What I loved about photographing these two at Grupp’s was the variety of images we were able to get - some in the Christmas tree area, and some in a small fielded area nearby that looked more fall-ish. Their outfits were the perfect in between for the seasons, too… and they were a blast to photograph!

It also just so happens that these two were celebrating their 10 year anniversary this year, so of course, we had to get some photos commemorating their wedding rings.

I’m so thankful for you both, Dani & Trevor!

Historic Harmony Christmas Family Photos

Check out this precious family! I had the pleasure of photographing these three in Harmony this past weekend for their Christmas photos... as gifts for grandparents! What better gift could a grandparent ask for

Also, one of my favorite things about photographing toddlers is that they are always on the move. It makes the photos so candid and natural (even though it can feel a bit chaotic for the parents in the midst of the session).

Christmas Tree Farm Mini Photo Sessions at Grupp's Christmas Tree Farm

Christmas tree farm mini photo sessions have become some of my favorite types of sessions to photograph throughout my career! I only began hosting them a few years ago, and I LOVE how so many of the families I photograph return year after year and make it a part of their Christmas tradition!

This year, I hosted these sessions at Grupp’s Christmas Tree Farm for the first time. And it was a HUGE hit! The owner of the farm even had a vintage red truck for us to use… which gave us one more fun backdrop to use! The kids especially loved the truck, and I love the images we were able to get!

To all of the families who joined me this year (2025) for photos… thank you so much for trusting me with these sweet memories! I truly cherish your sweet families and your trust in me. And a huge thank you to Grupp’s Tree Farm for letting us take photos here, and my assistant, Dani, for helping me!

Empty Nester Christmas Photo Session Idea

Empty Nester Christmas Photo Session Idea

I have never photographed a session like this before in my 12 years of taking portraits!

This “Empty Nester” Christmas photo concept is one of the most unique Christmas card photo ideas I’ve yet to see!

These two came to me wanting to do something different for their Christmas card. It is their first year as “Empty Nesters,” so instead of taking a typical family photo for their card, they decided to lean into the transitional season they are in and take some photos featuring their “empty nest.”

What was so funny about this session is that one of their kids was actually there for dinner… so they helped us with the confetti portion! 🤣

Congratulations on these two empty nesters! If you live in the Pittsburgh area and are looking for photos to document your unique season of life, I’d love to work with you!

Neely H: Zelienople Senior Photos

Neely is a 2025 graduate who plays hockey and lacrosse - and loves ice cream! Her senior session took place in town around Zelienople - an underrated location for photos, in my opinion!

Neely brought three gorgeous, colorful outfits that really helped her pop off the background of her photos. And we even found some beautiful summer light - behind a BP gas station, of all places!

Neely, you were a joy to photograph - congrats on your senior year!

Senior Photo Trends: How They've Evolved Over the Years

Senior photos have come a long way from the stiff poses and standard backdrops of the past. Today, they’re a vibrant, creative celebration of individuality and style. As a Pittsburgh senior photographer, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing these exciting changes firsthand. Here are some of the biggest trends we’ve seen in recent years:

1. Natural Settings Over Studio Backdrops

Gone are the days when studio portraits were the norm. Now, seniors are stepping outside and embracing natural settings. From the lush greenery of Frick Park to the industrial charm of Pittsburgh’s Strip District, outdoor shoots provide dynamic and personalized backdrops that add life and depth to photos.

2. Lifestyle Photography

Today’s senior photos feel more like lifestyle shoots. The focus is on capturing authentic moments rather than overly posed portraits. Think laughing on a park bench, walking down a city street, or even grabbing a coffee at your favorite local cafe. These candid, real-life vibes create images that truly reflect your personality.

3. Personalization is Key

Seniors want their photos to tell their unique story, and photographers are getting creative to make it happen. Whether it’s incorporating hobbies, pets, or favorite outfits, personalization has become a cornerstone of modern senior photography. Love basketball? Let’s hit the court. Passionate about music? Bring your instrument along for the session.

4. Creative Wardrobe Choices

Fashion has taken center stage in senior photo trends. Seniors are showcasing their personal style with bold outfits, statement pieces, and multiple wardrobe changes. From casual jeans and sneakers to elegant dresses or sharp suits, the options are endless. Coordinating colors and textures with the location is also a popular way to create cohesive and visually stunning shots.

5. Incorporating Urban and Industrial Backdrops

Cities like Pittsburgh offer a perfect blend of natural beauty and urban grit, and seniors are taking advantage. Industrial backdrops, colorful murals, and cityscapes have become increasingly popular, adding an edgy and modern twist to traditional portraits.

6. Golden Hour Magic

The golden hour (just after sunrise or before sunset) has become a coveted time for senior shoots. The soft, warm light during this time creates a dreamy and flattering glow that enhances every photo. It’s a simple yet powerful way to make photos stand out.

7. Themed Sessions

Themed senior sessions have been gaining popularity as well. Whether it’s a vintage vibe, a boho aesthetic, or a nod to a favorite movie or book, themes help seniors express their passions in a fun and creative way.

8. Focus on Storytelling

Perhaps the biggest shift is the emphasis on storytelling. Senior photos are no longer just about how you look but about capturing who you are. From locations that hold personal significance to props that represent your journey, every detail is carefully curated to tell your unique story.

Ready to Capture Your Style?

The evolution of senior photography is all about freedom, creativity, and individuality. If you’re ready to create a session that reflects who you are and celebrates your journey, let’s chat! Whether it’s a bold cityscape, a serene natural setting, or something entirely unique, I’m here to help bring your vision to life. Let’s make your senior photos unforgettable!

This sweet family has been in front of my lens a few times over the years, starting all the way back in 2018 for their wedding day! It is a joy and a privilege to get to photograph families throughout the years

These photos were taken in Historic Harmony - one of my favorite local Christmas backdrops! Caroline was a little trooper and so much fun to photograph.
